My Grandmother and her neighbors look forward to checking their wall mounted mail boxes everyday. It never really dawned on me how difficult it was for Grandma to make the trek to her mailbox each day. When she sold her home and moved into an assisted living apartment complex, the mail boxes were situated quite a way from her doorstep.

One rainy morning when I stopped by for a visit and she asked could I walk to the mailboxes and mail a letter. Walking up the steep incline from her home, I realized what a relief having a more conveniently located mailbox would mean to her.

My Grammy's next-door neighbor has a grandson who is in the military and he meets me often at my Grandmother's door when he sees me stop by to ask if I will check his mail as well, especially if it is raining.

We have many relatives who live all over the world, and receiving cards and letters from our scattered family members is a tremendous joy for my Grandmother. My Granny is like the glue that bonds us together. One thing I discovered since my Grandmother's move to the retirement village is that older people really enjoy receiving mail!

Wall mounted mail boxes became the talk of the town in the retirement activities center where Grandma lives. A big selling point for the retirees was security. Many of the elderly were concerned about their packages being secure from theft. They were assured by the fact that their mailbox could be locked.

Another concern for everyone that has mail delivered to his or her home is identity theft. Unfortunately, it has become a constant worry that someone could obtain personal information from our own mailboxes! While we are away working all day or on vacation, an unscrupulous person can open our mail such as credit card offers and apply for credit in our name!
